Famalicao punish Nacional before the break in 4-0 win

Famalicao won 4-0 at Estádio da Madeira because they made their chances count with ruthless speed. Nacional had 55 per cent possession and created 12 shots, but Famalicao scored three times before half-time and finished with seven efforts on target. The contest was decided by quality in the key moments, not control of the ball.

Nacional began with the larger share of possession and finished with 486 passes, compared with Famalicao’s 397. That control did not bring enough threat. Nacional’s best work came through the ball. Their 55 per cent possession was their third-highest figure across seven matches, and their 486 passes were completed with 433 accuracy. They also won seven corners, their highest total across those seven matches. That suggests a side able to reach attacking areas, even on a night when the scoreboard made their performance look empty.

The problem was the final action. Nacional produced 12 shots, their third-highest total across seven matches, but only three were on target. Their seven shots inside the box ranked fourth across those matches. Famalicao’s goalkeeper made three saves, the same number as Renato Bellucci, yet Famalicao’s seven shots on target were more than double Nacional’s total. Nacional also conceded three times before half-time, forcing three changes at the break and another two later.

Nacional’s strongest rating was Chiheb Labidi’s 6.96, built on three key passes, five tackles and three successful dribbles. Even so, the wider pattern was damaging. Renato Bellucci rated 5.54 against 6.90, a fall of 1.36, while Miguel Baeza rated 5.92 against 6.83, a fall of 0.91. Zé Vitor rated 6.12 against 6.95, a fall of 0.83, and Matheus Dias rated 5.82 against 6.43 before his red card.

The available shot profile supports Famalicao’s win rather than suggesting Nacional were simply unlucky. Both teams had 12 shots and seven inside the box, but Famalicao put seven efforts on target while Nacional put three on target. That is the key separation between the sides.

Possession points the other way, with Nacional holding 55 per cent, but it did not translate into comparable danger. Famalicao scored three times before half-time and added another after the interval, while Nacional were kept scoreless despite their higher share of the ball. The result would have looked less decisive if Nacional had matched Famalicao’s accuracy, but the numbers show that the visitors created the more useful version of the same volume.
