Filipe Ramos named Cristianinho in Portugal under-17 squad
The call-up follows 13 appearances for Portugal’s under-15 and under-16 sides, with five goals reported by Marca. It marks his next step in the national youth set-up.
On 2 November 2026, Portugal under-17 coach Filipe Ramos named Cristianinho in his squad for the first time. The selection came for the first round of European Championship qualifying, putting the Al Nassr winger into a campaign that begins this month. For Cristianinho, whose Portugal appearances had so far come at under-15 and under-16 level, the announcement opens the door to a new age group and a chance to add to his youth international record.
The significance lies in a steady progression through Portugal’s youth sides, rather than the attention attached to his name. Before this selection, Cristianinho had played 13 times for Portugal: four appearances with the under-15s and nine with the under-16s. Marca reports that he scored five goals across those age groups, including twice in an under-15 tournament final and three times in nine under-16 matches. The under-17 call-up is the next step in that record, putting him among players selected for a European qualifying campaign, not yet evidence of what he will achieve at senior level.
A place in the qualifying squad
The selection is for a group of 23, with Cristianinho joining the squad for its work at Cidade do Futebol. Portugal’s camp is scheduled to run from 6 to 17 November, covering both training and the qualifying matches, according to O Jogo, A Bola and Record.
The record behind the step up
Cristianinho’s Portugal youth career began in 2025, when he made his under-15 debut. He later moved into the under-16 side, where Portugal won two competitions, according to Marca.
Three matches in Group 6
Portugal’s first-round schedule begins with Andorra on 11 November, then turns to Bulgaria three days later. Serbia is the final opponent, on 17 November, according to Maisfutebol, A Bola, Record and Marca. All three matches are scheduled at Cidade do Futebol.
The dates give the group a tight rhythm: Portugal will play three times between 11 and 17 November, with only two days between each fixture.
A step, not a verdict
The selection is an opportunity, not a conclusion about where Cristianinho’s career will lead. Marca made that distinction in February, describing him as showing talent of his own during a Portugal training session while stressing that he remained at a formative stage.
That is a useful counterweight to the attention his family name brings. The under-17 selection now gives him a new setting in which to show what he can do, with the next evidence coming in Portugal’s qualifying matches.
Portugal’s youth team, across borders
Cristianinho is listed as a winger for Al Nassr, one of the clubs outside Portugal represented in this under-17 squad. O Jogo, A Bola and Record also list Kauã Miranda, who plays for Santos in Brazil, and Nickolas Andrade of Germany’s Hoffenheim. Their presence shows that Portugal’s youth group draws players from several club settings, not only the domestic game.
Cristianinho’s own link to Portugal is through his choice of national team: he was born in the United States but represents Portugal at youth level, according to A Bola and Marca. That choice places his international progression within the Portuguese set-up, even as his club career is based in Saudi Arabia. The squad brings those different paths together under one national shirt.
What happens after the Group 6 matches depends on the team’s finishing position: Portugal must finish in the top two to reach the second qualifying round, Record reports. The selection is confirmed; the next stage is not.
